[INTERVIEW] SUBLIME - December 2022 (Yein)

Q. You're releasing another digital single as a soloist. How do you feel?
A. I released the ‘Plus n Minus’ digital single in January this year, and I thought that I wouldn't be nervous since this would be my second album released. But I'm more tense and nervous about this album than the previous one.

Q. What kind of song is Jeong Yein's digital single 'Bus'?
A. This song has a different genre and vibe than ‘Plus n Minus’ from the previous album. If I showed a hip and lively charms through the previous album, this time it is filled with my calmer side. Like the title, it is a ballad that has a melancholic feel of missing the happy days while reminiscing about the old memories on the bus stop.

Q. Its contrasting vibe to ‘Plus n Minus’ caught the attention. What kind of charm did Jeong Yein want to capture?
A. I tried to go for a relaxed and fresh image in ‘Plus n Minus’, but for ‘Bus’ I tried to calmly express the lonely and melancholic vibe, but not too much. It's a very charming, melancholic song but also  has a warm comfort.

Q. Please tell us about 'Bus' in one keyword!
A. I think it would be "Longing". When you think of bus stops, you think of the excitement of leaving somewhere, or of going back to your comfortable home and the feeling of rest. In my song, I tried to put the loneliness of waiting for a bus that has nowhere to go and doesn't come no matter how long time passes. It would be nice if you could focus on the lyrics that long for the happy and exciting time.

Q. I think it's a song that further emphasizes Jeong Yein's vocal colors, so was there any part that you focused on during the recording?
A. I wanted the emotions to be felt too much. Since this song feels lonely but also conveys a warm comfort, I tried to express my feelings calmly.

Q. I heard that you worked together with Heize for this album. Is there any memorable episode while working with Heize?
A. I kept recording the same part because I wanted the song to better, and I remember Heize-unnie told me that I worked so hard. Haha unnie, I love you and thank you!

Q. It seems like Jeong Yein's own vibe comes out in the music video. What do you think is the point to watch out for?
A. In this music video, the happy moments with someone from the past are intersected with the image of being left alone in the present. It will be way more interesting to follow my emotions that conflict with each point of view!

Q. Is there any charm of Yein's that you'd like to be imprinted on the public through this album?A. I have two. First is ‘A singer that gives comfort’. I always tend to get comforted when I listen to songs and gain the strength to live hard again, so I wish that people who listen to my song will be comforted and gain strength from this album. Second is ‘Vocal colors’. I sang this with a different style and feeling to my vocals to when I was doing activities as Lovelyz. I have hope that (people) would know that the singer named Jeong Yein has this kind of voice and emotions!

Q. This is your second album released as a soloist, but it seems that promoting as a solo is more unfamiliar than promoting as a group. Was there any difference that you once again felt while preparing for this album?
A. I actually once again felt that I need to have a lot of energy to sing a ballad by myself and I'm practicing for it. I think it's more meaningful because the time that I spent preparing for this album was to fill the parts in which I was lacking in!

Q. Have the Lovelyz members listened to the song? What were their reactions?
A. Lovelyz celebrated our 8th anniversary not too long ago so we met up, and I shot ‘Bus’ reel videos with the members! They reacted to the song together and cheered for me a lot, telling me that the song was perfect for me. I'm once again grateful for the unnies!

Q. It seems like you're showcasing a different charm with each album. What kind of image would you like to show more in the future?
A. There has been a lot of images that I've showcased so far, but I'd like to keep showing you various charms that I can slowly show you. I'd like to meet you again with a refreshing song that fits the summer next time!

Q. Please say a word to your fans who have been looking forward to this digital single 'Bus' a lot!
A. Lovelinus! I've been talking about how I was preparing an album for some months now so I haven't been able to actually sing it for you, but the album is finally out! Thank you so much for waiting for so long, and I hope that my song will be like a warm heater to you in the cold winter. I love you always!

[INTERVIEW] Genie Music Q&A - November 2022 (Sujeong)

Ryu Sujeong's Q&A that is filled ‘confession’

It is a song that expresses a calm scene through music, with Ryu Sujeong's voice that delivers her confession and the sound of the piano that uninterruptedly and carefully follows, and it is filled with Ryu Sujeong's gratitude for her fans, who gave her a new definition of love.

Q. How have you been these days?
A. I've been preparing for the release of this digital single. I'd like to release a new album next year so I've been working hard on the songs.

Q. What kind of song is ‘Dearest?
A. It's my self-composed song that I've finally released after a long time. This is a song only consisting of piano and vocals, so you focus more on the emotions while listening to it.

Q. I heard that there's a history behind ‘Dearest’. Please tell us about it!
A. I first wrote this song in 2015 and I'm able to let everyone listen to it after a long time has passed! The lyrics that were written in June of 2015 focused on the excitement of being together, since it was during the early days of our debut, but after some time, the lyrics of the current ‘Dearest’ are filled with even more emotions as I made a lot of memories with ‘you’.

Q. What's the most memorable moment you have while preparing ‘Dearest’?
A. The most memorable is when I recorded ‘Dearest’, which started with recording it as an MP3 voice recording, in the studio. I don't think I could ever forget how nervous I felt then.

Q. Is there anything you'd like to say to your fans and everyone who's listening to ‘Dearest’?
A. It'd be nice if you could listen to this while thinking about the person that you love. I hope you can relate a lot to my first confession : )

Q. Finally, please say a word to me, ‘Ryu Sujeong’.
A. I never thought there would come a day where I'd be able to release the songs that I wrote when I was younger, so it's very fascinating and precious. I hope you'll have precious and happy days in the future as well!

[INTERVIEW] Marie Claire - January 2022 (Mijoo)

Q. You used the words "A new start" while delivering the news of you moving to Antenna.

A. I used the words to mean that I would like to showcase the things that I hadn't been able to show in a new way. I've shown you various sides of myself so far, whether on stage or variety shows, but from now on, my will to take on even more challenges has gotten bigger.

Q. Excitement and anxiety are bound to coexist at the starting point, so what kind of mindset are you waiting for your next chapter with?
A. I don't feel anxious at all. The company believes in what challenges I take on and I have a lot of good people who are supporting me. There's no point where I feel a big concern or worry. Rather, I wasn't too excited, and I try to focus on what I can do well now. I did say "a new start", but there's not much of a difference, and I'm trying to maintain that kind of mindset myself.

Q. Are you the type to not hesitate to take on new challenges?
A. I'm a realist who thinks, "If I do it, I do it." I do contemplate on it until I try it, but when I've decided to do it in the first place, I push ahead without any fear, so these days, I have to do something about it. (Laughs)

Q. What do you want to try doing?
A. I've never stood on stage alone, so I want to try to have a music promotion as a soloist, and I also want to show a more carefree side of me in variety shows. If there's an opportunity, I'm going to try acting as well. I try to build myself little by little while doing the things that I didn't use to doing in my daily life. I absolutely hated working out, but I've started working out not long ago. I'm also going to get my driver's license.

Q. I can feel your spirit to try anything.
A. Haha. My mindset about that is big now.

Q. You're like this now too, but I think that the show <Sixth Sense> that started in September 2020 is still as important. You didn't expect to seriously enter the variety world like this, right?
A. I've always been the type to not imagine the distant future. Even if I visualized it, I wouldn't have expected this at all. It was fun as I was doing it, and I just thought it was nice that there was an increase in people who viewed me well.

Q. The variety world and the idol world demand intensity in a different meaning. You must've needed time to get used to it, right?
A. It wasn't easy, of course. However, I didn't need a long time to get used to it. I had fun with whatever situation I was given, and I was able to get used to it naturally because I was aware of the side of me that I showed on variety shows and I simply expressed that boldly (Laughs). The amicable atmosphere of the filming site was also helpful.

Q. It seemed that quite a lot of people were surprised. You appeared in variety shows but you're a girl group member, so there's a point where people thought, "She won't go that far." That's why people were surprised because their expectation was completely off.
A. When I first appeared in variety shows, I didn't think, "I'm a girl group (member), I'm an idol." My idol side is for the stage. I just show the side of me that matches my role as someone who appears in a variety show, so I didn't set a certain line and acted. It's not something that I did after throwing caution to the wind. I was more surprised that there were a lot of people being surprised.

Q. Do you do a lot of monitoring? I think there would be moments where you were surprised at what you saw in shows that you weren't even aware of at the filming site. (Laughs)
A. I was shocked myself when I watched myself doing a random dance on <Happy Together>. I thought, "I danced like this?" But I usually don't watch the shows that I appear in. It's not because I would be shocked, but I just think that my mind would be stuck in what I saw.

Q. Lately, we can see the reaction of people who were surprised at your out-of-this-world tension saying, "Right. Mijoo is a singer. Mijoo's voice is this good?" through <Hangout With Yoo>. I thought that it was ironic. While you were promoting as Lovelyz, you were known as the member who was good at variety, but now that you're actually doing variety shows, people are talking about your singing.
A. I've never thought about those responses. I guess you're right. But I'm not sad about it. I'm happy when there are people who recognize me in any way. I just missed being on stage, so it was nice to have the opportunity to sing, and I'm glad that people like my voice.

Q. What kind of person is Mijoo in real life, outside of the shows and stage?
A. I tend to be very shy and enjoy being by myself. I like watching a movie and drinking alone. But on the other hand, I'm very affectionate and I love people. There are people who think it's tiring to go outside their house but once they go out, they like talking to people, right? That's me.

Q. You're a typical introvert.
A. That's right. But what everyone misunderstands is, "How can an introvert appear in variety shows?" But that's just a tendency. There are introverts who are confident. I do get nervous, but I don't feel intimidated. That's the kind of person I am. (Laughs)

Q. Your new start coincides just in time with the new year. Do you have any goals in 2022?
A. My versatility. I want to showcase that. At the same time, I think it's important to assume the same attitude. I want to carry this mindset that I have before the start until the end of the year.

[INTERVIEW] Vogue Korea - November 2021 (Mijoo)

Q. You came to film even though you suddenly got sick.
A. I've never been this unwell. I guess my immune system has dropped. But still, I have to keep my promise to <VOGUE>!

Q. You rose as the entertainment blue chip since last year. Compared to your schedules from last year and 2 years ago, it must be very different now. How many off days do you get in a week?
A. I work the whole week, and I rest once or twice at most. I've always been a homebody. I don't go out to hang out, so I like meeting people at work. You work with your heart when you play while earning money. I don't even know how to hang out when I get a break, so I think I just stay at home?

Q. You said even your friends called you and said, "You're not coming out, are you?"
A. I don't even have that many friends that contact me these days haha. I'm being more careful because of Covid-19. I don't want to lose the public's trust because of a mistake.

Q. You debuted with 'Lovelyz' at 21 and now you're 28. You must have little to no personal life. Don't you find it sad?
A. Honestly, yes, but I met the Lovelyz friends and when I consider that my dreams came true quicker than I thought, it puts my mind at ease. If I work hard at what I do, it won't be too late to play around when I have time, right? Being young doesn't mean that I can just goof around.

Q. Are you working now?
A. I'm having fun working as if I'm hanging out. I'm happy when I have a schedule.

Q. You said that once you set a goal, you tend to be consistent no matter what anyone says. You made up your mind to become an idol after a middle school retreat and practice without your parents knowing, then you came to Seoul from your hometown, Okcheon, to audition. You said you'd never been to Seoul before that.
A. I took a train by myself on a weekend and asked around. Even as someone who was bad with directions, I finally found the place. One day, a call came to my house with the news that I passed the open audition. My parents knew this and said, "So you are capable, you worked hard to prepare for this," and sent me to an academy, because they wanted me to [learn] it properly.

Q. Those days must've been vivid in your memory.
A. On the train, I kept imagining that I would pass the audition. After I passed the audition, I just dreamed to debut. After debuting, I dreamed to coolly stand on stage. I repeatedly moved on to the next step after realizing one wish.

Q. What is your current goal?
A. 'Let's keep going steadily'. It doesn't sound magnificent, but it's what I need the most right now. I asked my company of this not too long ago. I want to work for a long time, so I asked them to give me schedules that wouldn't damage my health. Of course, my company adjusted my schedules.

Q. That's something you can say now.
A. I tend to be pretty resolute. Especially when it comes to work, I can be a cold person.

Q. Do you tend to be thorough with self-management?
A. It's very important! It would be a nuisance to shows if I didn't feel well, so I have to pay attention to that.

Q. How do you take care of your mental health?
A. I'm not lying when I say that I control myself well. I don't know how, but I don't get any 'mental breakdowns' now, so I must be doing well, right? Before I cave in, I calmly judge [the situation] and ask for help from the people around me. Like what I said to my company, "I want to go for a long time!"

Q. The staff must've been scared when Mijoo-ssi opened the door and walked in.
A. I politely give them a call. Haha.

Q. Did exercising pre-debut also help you build a better form? You did archery, track and field, etc. because of the influence from your father who is a PE teacher.
A. Honestly, I have no talent for sports. I can get influenced 'mentally' too. When I got homesick when I was a trainee, I called my parents and they said, "You said you wanted to do this, no! Just practice when this happens," mixed in with affectionate cursing. Actually, my mom really wanted to take me [home]. She was strict because she was worried that I might give up.

Q. Is your personality a lot like your mother's?
A. Yes. We're strong, but soft.

Q. You once cried at a variety show when you watched the video of yourself continuing to perform even with a sprained ankle during a Lovelyz performance. I suddenly felt bad when I saw your crying. I thought, "She's the most lively idol, but of course, she has a soft side to her."
A. I thought about how hard it was for me then. I sprained my ankle, but I danced with my strength on my big toe. I just thought that I had to wrap it up safely, so I didn't know that I was in pain. I went to the hospital and they said that I ruptured my ligament, and only then I felt the pain. I must've grown a lot after that kind of hardship, no?

Q. Are you the type to handle pain well?
A. I think that when I'm in pain, my weakness shows. I hate make it obvious and cause harm to people around me.

Q. It's important to have time to comfort yourself, as strong as you are. So how do you do it?
A. I unwind when I get home. No one would believe it, but I like cleaning. I'd clean or listen to music that have lyrics that fit my current situation. I watch sad movies when I want to cry.

Q. I'm glad that you show your true feelings even when you're alone.
A. I feel refreshed on the inside when I cry hard at sad movies. It's my own way of comforting myself.

Q. What's a movie that left a deep impression on your recently?
A. I watched all the movies that Na Moon Hee starred in. When I have a very hard time, I watched <A Little Princess> and received comfort from it. Her acting reminds me of family. She's like a grandmother whom I can comfortably hug and cry to.

Q. I also saw the interview where you said you wanted to act. But it's hard to find your work other than the <I Am a Job Seeker> web drama that you did in 2016.
A. I'm going to do my job as a singer and entertainer properly before slowly starting another work. I have to focus on what's given to me now.

Q. You're Lovelyz's main dancer, so you said that you wanted a solo album with a strong performance like Sunmi, right?
A. I don't know if the opportunity for a solo would come, so I have to prepare for it. Even though I'm doing many variety shows, I'm practicing so that my vocals and dancing won't get rusty.

Q. Like how you imagined to debut in the train, if you keep thinking about what you wish for, it may become a reality.
A. I still imagine things a lot these days. 'I'll become like this!' But I'm a realist, so I just imagine things that are likely to come true, because I'd just get hurt if they didn't come true.

Q. You're realistic, so you must give a lot of advices to people around you.
A. Right. My close younger sisters often ask me what they should do. My method of counseling is, I would say what they want to say first, then finally, I will tell them like it is. I give the remedy first, then the disease (t/n: the proverb usually goes the other way around).

Q. You often say that you have reversal charms. What kind of reversal?
A. I have a lot. First of all, I may show a cheerful image on variety shows, but I'm actually sexy. I'm calm, quiet, and I'm a good cook too!

Q. Did you discover your cooking talent after living alone?
A. I eat a lot of delivery food, so my health wasn't good and I spent too much. I'm going to cook at home as much as possible these days.

Q. You appear on a lot of variety shows, so only the energetic Mijoo is known.
A. That is unfortunate, but it's precious because the public likes me. As for my reversal charms, I can slowly show them.

Q. It's been 8 years since you came to Seoul and lived a dorm life, so you wanted your own space so much, right? It's been 2 years since you started living alone, so how did you feel when you signed the lease for your own place?
A. It felt awkward for me because it didn't feel like my own place at first. It was like I just hung out for a bit at a friend's place. As I started living there, my smell started filling the space and my stuff was everywhere, so it felt like home. But I can't decorate, so I only have a bed, sofa, TV, and a wardrobe.

Q. You said you also have a lot of your pictures?
A. Haha. My house with my pictures hanging on it is the most comfortable [place] now. Once I enter, it feels like, "Of course, my house is the best!"

Q. You said you don't order food because it costs a lot of money, so are you the type to have economical sense?
A. First of all, I want to save my money to help my parents. They told me, "When you're young, you have to use your money and have fun," but I like saving it better. I don't really have any luxury item. I mostly have training outfits and slippers, like how I came here today. I don't really do makeup, so I don't have a lot of cosmetics.

Q. Idols these days have a lot of interest in fashion, but you're different. Then, what do you like? I heard you read often?
A. I only liked books for a while. Haha. I fall asleep when I read a book these days. I watch videos instead. I watch dramas on Netflix and variety shows too.

Q. K-Content is a hot topic recently, right? Do you plan on advancing overseas?
A. We planned a lot on that. After Covid-19 is gone, I want to quickly perform in front of international fans. Actually, I want to have a meal with the staff more than I want to go overseas.

Q. You're good to your staff, aren't you?
A. I have strong faith that they are my people. I don't know about them, but for me, I love them very much. Haha. I appreciate them so much for working hard for me since this morning.

Q. There's only a few months left of this year. Looking back, what did you do well and what do you want to do for the remaining time?
A. I feel happy because the name Lee Mijoo is known to the public this year. I will work hard and keep showing you that I am a fun person.

Q. What's your wish for not your work, but personal life?
A. I suddenly feel sad. Haha. Looking back, I couldn't take care of my personal life. I'm going to create a hobby and use my own time. Then, I will be an even cooler Lee Mijoo!

[INTERVIEW] bnt - April 2021 (Yein)

Spring, night, and Jeong Yein

Q. The concept that you like the most from today

“The concept where I posed with fruits while sitting on a chair. I liked the outfit with the colorful sweater and brown wide pants too, and it was nice because I felt lively even for a short time (Laughs)”

Q. You seem to normally like casual outfits more than fancy dresses

“That's right. I tend to prefer pants more than dresses and skirts, and wide leg pants too, not skinny pants. I'm slowly finding clothes that feel comfortable on my body.”

Q. You revealed your short hair in the 7th mini album ‘Unforgettable’, your first since your debut. It seems that you hear that it suits you a lot from the people around you

“Thankfully, I often hear how I look much better with it. My old friends say that it looks really good on me, but they said that it makes me look a little tough. I'm happy because I received a lot of compliments, but on the other hand, I also felt regret, "I should've cut it before/sooner," because I've lived with long hair for 23 years (Laughs)”

Q. Why did you keep holding on to your long hair?

“First of all, I preferred long hairstyle, and it's because I thought that that kind of natural image had stuck with me in the group too. I actually thought that short hair wouldn't look good on me.”

Q. Lovelyz's choreography looks girly at first glance, but many say that the intensity is surprisingly strong. What effort did you concentrate on to improve your stamina?

“Taking lessons with the choreographer. She makes us continuously run for 4 songs before the lesson starts, and on the last lap, we run with our knees up high (high stepping). After that, we jump straight into the dance practice. We've been practicing with this kind of process, so the choreography itself  will become really easy.”

Q. The Lovelyz song that is the hardest physically?

“I think it's ‘Hi~’. It looks easy because it looks gentle, but it's not easy to control the dynamics.”

Q. Lovelyz won a medal at MBC ‘Idol Star Athletics Championship’ for the first time. Are you usually the active type?

“I did modern dance when I was little, so I can use my body to some extent, but I'm actually not the type who enjoys that. But as much as it's hard to go out these days, I'm starting to do modern dance again. The reason why I've been whining throughout the shoot wasn't because it was hard but because of muscle pains (Laughs)”

Q. You were the last one to join the group. With you joining, in what way did you think you could fill Lovelyz?

“First of all, I lowered the group's average age? (Laughs) Another thing is that my voice is low and husky when I talk normally, but when I sing, I think that I have a voice tone that fits Lovelyz's image.”

Q. Did you feel any pressure at joining?

“I couldn't even feel pressured. I made by debut after a very short period of training, so I felt like it was hectic.”

Q. I heard that you sang Taeyeon's ‘Can You Hear Me’ at your audition. Which musician do you get motivated by?

“I listen to SWJA-sunbaenim's music often. My skills absolutely can't touch it, but I sometimes cover SWJA-nim's songs. She's a musician whom I really cherish.”

Q. You're famous for resembling your member, Seo Jisoo. The title must've been not bad, being called looking like her whose beauty has been praised highly since the first time you met her

“Of course. When I first met Jisoo-unnie during our trainee days, I thought, ‘So a person that pretty is a celebrity.’ I felt very lacking compared to her. I was so happy and grateful the first time I heard that we look alike.”

Q. What was Seo Jisoo's reaction at hearing that you look alike?

“Jisoo-unnie likes it too (Laughs)”

Q. I heard that in your debut days, your agency's staff confused both of your names

“Yes, but as we grow older, I think we each grew up differently. Unnie has more of a cat face. I look more like a puppy or a deer (Laughs)”

Q. You garnered a lot of attention with your performance of ‘Lady Vengeance’ in Mnet ‘Queendom’. I'm sure this performance has changed the way people around you look at you

“It's a moment where people showed me a lot of interest ever since I did rhythmic gymnastics at ‘Idol Star Athletics Championship’. Many people don't know that I used to do modern dance. I think that was why it got more attention. Most of all, I'm grateful that my strength was recognized.”

Q. It must've been hard for you to practice modern dance after so long

“Of course. It was very hard. I especially only had 4 days to practice because I was going to Japan at that time. It wasn't easy to practice with the dance team in the allocated time.”

Q. Did you prepare the performance according to yourself?

“That's right. I was chosen as the representative for my team and I planned the music, choreography, dance, outfit, everything by myself.”

Q. There are many saying that you blew away the parts that was regretful in the show at once with ‘Obliviate’. It seemed like the members also worked harder

“I can say this now, but the members were all very worried. We had only been showing pure and sentimental songs and suddenly we showed a mature image? We tried hard not to look awkward. Fortunately, our fans' reactions weren't bad (Laughs)”

Q. You showcase a different song and stage with every promotion. What's your secret to immersing yourself in [the concept]?

“My personality is actually far from adorable and cute (Laughs). During my debut days, it wasn't easy to get myself into that kind of mood, but ever since ‘Ah-Choo’,  I slowly got more natural. Since I'd been preparing for the ‘Obliviate’ promotion, I did some practice in advance in various ways, like image training or looking up stage videos. Because it was my first time performing with this kind of concept.”

“The secret is to practice my expressions a lot in front of the mirror. The members consistently do that to show a more familiar side.”

Q. What's the most memorable compliment that you got while promoting with Lovelyz?

“I don't remember the exact sentence, but a comment left a deep impression on me. It said that listening to our music feels like the sentimental feeling of a first love. Actually, there aren't many groups that do that kind of music in the idol market. I have pride for showing songs deep with sensibility and not only focusing on light and exciting songs. So I was even more concerned for the ‘Obliviate’ promotion, because it didn't have the strength and mood that we'd been showing so far.”

Q. You stopped doing modern dance in the past due to an ankle injury. After that, you went to a practical music academy. Was it because you had a dream of being on stage?

“I really couldn't sing, so I didn't dream of being a singer. This is how much I've grown (Laughs) At that time, I couldn't dance because of my leg injury and I couldn't go to school because of the high school qualification exam. When I was bored, I thought, ‘Let's just go to a practical music academy,’ and it opened a new door. I never imagined that I would become a singer.”

Q. Are you a hard worker?

“Isn't each people's standard of working hard different? I do work hard in front of every goal, but I don't think I spend a tremendous amount of time on it. There are a lot of people who work even harder than I do, so I think I regret that (Laughs)”

Q. What do you think about the job of being an idol? It's never something to start with a light heart

“Personally, the job of being an idol is about the passion itself. Should I say that it's something that you can't do if you don't have the passion? Even if you can start with a light heart, you won't be able to last long. You have to practice a lot and you have to have a good wit. They demand more variety of yourself these days, so you won't survive if you're not passionate.”

Q. Do you think that you were full of passion about the process?

“Looking back on it, yes. I think I'm here with the passion of having fun and being happy just standing in front of a stage. Otherwise, I would've lost the desire to promote.”

Q. The song that you're most fond of?

“‘Candy Jelly Love’. Since it's our debut song, I listen to it a lot until I get sick of it (Laughs) I only have 2 lines but combined with all the songs I've recorded, this is the song that I practiced on the most. I'm fond of it as much as that.”

Q. Do you have any hobby that you're steadily doing lately?

“The people around me also don't believe it, but I'm reading Phaedo of Socrates (Laughs). It has a lot of philosophical content, so it brings a lot of learning into acting study. When I was young, I was forced to read books, but now, I learn a lot through reading.”

Q. Time has passed in no time since you debuted with your 1st album ‘Girls' Invasion’ and now you're in your 6th year. Do you have anything that you were proud of and that you regretted while looking back at your activities?

“The thing that I was proud of is that I'm promoting until now without any major incident. Of course, there were a few gossips in the middle, but I'm thankful that they didn't affect the team in a bad way. The thing that I regretted is that if I had debuted with a bit more preparation, I think it would've been better. I lacked a lot because I had a very short training period.”

[INTERVIEW] THE STAR - March 2021 (Mijoo)

Lovelyz's Mijoo whom we met after a year and 6 months after the first edition of <THE STAR> Star Editor. Her cheerful and positive energy rises vividly.

Q. <THE STAR>'s first star editor, Mijoo! How have you been?
A. Fortunately, so many people love me, so I'm having happy days.

Q. How was today's shoot that signals the arrival of spring?
A. I never thought that I'd look good in pastel colors. I discovered a new side of me during today's photoshoot. I found that, "So I have this kind of vibe too," and I had a fun photoshoot.

Q. Like the concept of this photoshoot, do you also laze around at home when you have no work?
A. I don't get out of bed when I have no work (Laughs). I don't even eat, and I play with my phone or watch movies on my laptop in bed.

Q. I think we can hear the sound of the coming spring now. How does Mijoo-ssi feel that spring is coming?
A. I feel it every time the people around me take off their padded jackets. I feel, "So spring has come for these people. It should be coming for me too."

Q. What do you want to do in the warm spring?
A. I want to walk under the warm sun. It's also been around 7-8 years since I've gone out to see the flowers. I want to go out and see the flowers while listening to music.

Q. You recently became the charming head of police investigation in variety show <Hangout With Yoo>.
A. I went for the filming and it was 100% a skit. It was a skit from start to finish. so it was so much fun. I really shamelessly acted, so everyone said that the atmosphere was very fun. Even after the filming was over, I was still into the skit and called my mom on the phone and said, "This is Detective Lee." (Laughs)

Q. Do you usually like dramas or movies about crime investigation?
A. Yes. I like detective novels and detective stories so I watch it. So to appear in a program about detectives, I had fun and was excited. If I appear in one again, you'll be able to see a more keen Mijoo.

Q. What kind of performance do you want to play in the Strong 3 Team?
A. I'm the youngest, but I don't look like the youngest. The concept was that I was a genius who graduated early from the police academy. So I want to cleverly show my side who can accurately pinpoints.

Q. You became the first king of ants in the investing variety show <The Three Ants>. Do you have your own investment principle?
A. I don't immediately sell [my stock] as soon as it falls. I just really hold it. I invested in credible stocks, so I shouldn't be swayed by those drops. They go up again in a few days. Everyone, the best way is to do it while not getting stressed out. Please don't get stressed and hold!

Q. Is there any other programs that the Variety King Mijoo wants to try?
A. My wish is to appear in programs like the old show <Family Outing> where we have an overnight stay, play games and do morning missions. I like programs that are done outside, so I thought, "What if I appear in programs where I go on a 2 days and 1 night trip?" a lot. My agency stopped me because of my bareface, but I'm really okay [with my bareface]. (Laughs)

Q. You're good in variety shows too, but you're also good at being an idol that you even covered Paul Kim's 'Empty' live not long ago. What do variety and music mean to you?
A. They're totally different. I show my real self on variety shows instead of my idol self, and I show a "wannabe" image as an idol on stage. I want to show a reversal charm with my performance, so I said to my agency, "I don't want to show me being funny on stage." Everyone, you won't be able to see the funny Mijoo on stage. (Laughs)

Q. What concept do you want to try in the future, no matter as a group or solo?
A. I want to try a strong concept. Bold and sexy. I want to try something with a funky vibe. Since I've been showing you my lovely side as Lovelyz for 7 years, my goal is to show you a mature Mijoo now.

Q. According to your members, you're a homebody. Please introduce Mijoo-ssi's life at home.
A. Once I wake up, I just idle around for 2 hours and clean up. Then I take a shower and lie down again and that is my life. (Laughs) My style is really actually resting when it's time to rest, so I'm passionate on stage and rest at home.

Q. Do you have any beauty tip to share with your fans as a former beauty program host?
A. I think your skin is what is the standard and what completes your beauty. A good skin makes your makeup look better. Cleansing is also very important. We wear masks these days, so our skin gets a lot more sensitive. When that happens, eat a lot of vitamins. Your inner beauty is important.

Q. You used to not have an Instagram account but you made a new account in January of this year. What does that mean?
A. I made it not for myself but for Lovelinus. My ID is 'Queen Chus'. (Laughs) My acquaintance laughed at it at first so I was like, "Should I delete it?" but I kept hearing [the name] and it was pretty. Isn't "Queen Chus" pretty? (Laughs)

Q. Do you tend to check fans' comments?
A. I try to check the comments on V Live a lot, but I don't read comments on other sites. I don't want to get my feelings hurt. I think it's better for me not to read them. I love you, Lovelinus!

Q. What's your source of your tireless beagleness?
A. I think it's possible because I'm Mijoo. I like people, doing activities, and also talking, so my energy is high when I meet people. I want to keep chatting. I have a makeup artist, and her energy is the same as mine. We talk so much that we talked for 2 hours and still have things to talk about the next day.

Q. Please tell us a word or saying that makes you feel good when hearing it.
A. Someone was sick/feeling hurt. The person next to them said, "Let's get some energy from Mijoo today." I thought, "I guess I have a good energy. I really have to give them energy." I'll give you a better energy from now on. (Laughs)

Q. What do you think is your real charm?
A. I'm very girly and a really great cook. I clean and I'm neater than I look. I've only been showing you my easy-going side so you'll be surprised by my girly side. All I have to do now is get married. (Laughs)

Q. I heard that you're actually a softie. What's your real name that other people don't know?
A. My eyes are full of tears. I cry often and I guess I have this anger inside of me. I have guts and I hate losing, so I don't cry, but I get so soft-hearted when I'm emotional. I'm the type to cry with someone when they cry. People like me are soft-hearted.

Q. Do you want to try to work in any other field someday?
A. Going to work on time. I want to try an office job where I go home on time. A job where I sit in front of the computer. I want to try something that is a complete opposite of what I do now.

Q. Your passion for acting, is it still going on?
A. I really want to try acting, but my wish now is to release a solo album. I still like the stage more than acting, so I'll realize my dream then I want to have an interest in acting next.

Q. What is your style when you love?
A. I'm the style to give everything, I can even give my heart and soul. (Laughs) When I have someone, I don't see anyone but them. My style is that once I date them, I tend to go with them for a very long time, but after breaking up with them, I will rest again for a long time.

Q. Are you the type to take care of people?
A. Yes. I feel awkward when I'm the one being taken care of. (Laughs) I want to do everything for the person I love.

Q. When is your happiest moment?
A. This moment right here. I feel the happiest with trivial things. I'm having very happy times these days. I hope it won't end. (Laughs)

Q. What's your concern these days?
A. I'm getting old and my waist hurts. I haven't danced to a single song but I'm out of breath. (Laughs) I want to show you a new side of me but I wonder what side of me are people curious of. If you have any side of me that you're curious of, please leave a comment under <THE STAR>'s Hatterview Youtube. I'll carefully check them. (Laughs)

Q. You're now in your 7th year. If you could think back to the moment you felt the proudest?
A. People asked me, "Mijoo, when are you debuting?" and I was the proudest to be able to say, "I've made my debut!" after the first showcase. I feel proud again after wrapping up a concert. There's always that feeling that I could've done better, but I feel proud while thinking, "I've done that too." I'm also proud now when I think, "I did a <THE STAR> photoshoot," and I'm living while being thankful for the little things.

Q. Do you have a plan and wish for this year?
A. I'll live as Mijoo who does her best. I'll be a tireless energizer. (Laughs) My wish is for Lovelyz to do another online concert. I want to release a solo album too, and I hope that a lot of people will love us Lovelyz.

Q. Finally, what do you want to say to <THE STAR> readers and your fans?
A. I wore a style that I've never tried before. I hope you'll view my new image prettily. Also, I hope we'll see each other again next time. (Laughs) And Lovelinus! Lovelyz is 7 years old now, so thank you for not going anywhere and always being by our side. I hope we'll be able to meet each other face-to-face in our next comeback. I love you, everyone.

[INTERVIEW] Esquire - December 2020 (Mijoo)

The things that Lovelyz's Mijoo hasn't shown yet is too much

The things that Lovelyz's Mijoo hasn't shown yet is too much. She's unpacking them slowly, bit by bit.

Q. Since you entered the studio earlier, I felt that the stories of Mijoo on shows were not exaggerated nor false.
A. Eh? I entered the studio more modestly than usual, though. (Laughs)

Q. On ‘자꾸만LAB’, you said, “I usually pick up clothes and wear them as I see them,” but I didn't think that you'd come in really wearing only training pants and slippers.
A. Ah, that thing. (Laughs) I really like training clothes. I like comfortable clothes, so. When I buy clothes, I only consider 2 things: is it comfortable? Is it something I can wear often? I only have short-sleeved t-shirts or hoodies and legging pants in my closet. I have to date to buy pretty clothes.

Q. Oh, you brought up dating talks first. It's Christmas soon.
A. I said that I would have to date to doll myself up. Is Editor-nim dating?

Q. This feels like I'm getting interviewed. No comment. (Laughs) You took off your ‘track pants’ and showed a completely different image than your ‘beagle’ image.
A. Actually, I have a self in me that fits well with this kind of photoshoot. (Laughs) I haven't shown it yet, so everyone doesn't know about it. If I show a lot of things all at once, my charms will drop. I hope a lot of people will know that Mijoo has this side of her too.

Q. You were famous among Lovelyz fans as a ‘beagle’ and ‘high tension’, but I feel like those feelings exploded these days.
A. That's right. I've always liked people and talking with people. But again, I can't stand the silence even for a bit while I'm talking to someone. Even when I was communicating with fans before, I didn't stop talking. My fans know that personality of mine very well. I think a lot of my Lovelyz fans said something like ‘Mijoo has always been like that’ under clips of "The Sixth Sense". (Laughs)

Q. On the other hand, there are comments left by longtime fans that said, ‘Our Mijoo is actually a kid who quietly cross-stitches at home and watches "Crayon Shin-chan".’ (Laughs)
A. That's another charm that I have yet to show the world. (Laughs) My mouth really runs when I'm outside meeting people and I talk, but at home, I really like to watch movies or variety shows quietly. I also really like "Crayon Shin-chan". For cross-stitching, that was a hobby that I did for a bit so I showed it off to my fans, but I don't do it anymore. (Laughs) Ah, and I like reading books too. I come off as not having a lot of knowledge on shows, but it's just an image.

Q. But… I looked up ‘Lovelyz Mijoo’ on the way to the studio today and the articles about you getting the capital city of England wrong was at the top.
A. Ayy, it's London. I know that. (Laughs) Um... I didn't know that at that time. When I studied each country's capital city, I got confused because I studied from the difficult ones first. Next question. (Laughs)

Q. Okay, then let's just say that you know it. (Laughs) Anyway, you're saying that you're a complete homebody?
A. That's right. I really don't go out on my days-off. My friends don't even call to tell me to go out. “You won't come out, right?” They instead ask me that. (Laughs) Once I go out, I'm super high tension.

Q. There are many clips of Mijoo on "The Sixth Sense" or any other variety shows that you appear on posted on Instagram these days. The response is very good. Have you ever thought that, ‘So I'm a trend these days’ through SNS?
A. A trend? No. (Laughs) I don't even use Instagram, or any other SNS, so I don't really know the atmosphere these days. If people post a lot of my memes and give positive responses, then that's something I appreciate very much, but I think it's better to keep being in the dark about it, because it'd be different if I knew what people were thinking.

Q. Have you ever thought about making a personal Instagram like the other members?
A. That… I can't do it. Just in case, this is really just in case, what if I felt sentimental at dawn and I uploaded a crying selfie with the caption, ‘Today too… I did it…’ or something like that. (Laughs) I could do something impulsive like that. So for me, I don't think I should do Instagram.

Q. Yes. Being sentimental at dawn is dangerous.
A. Yes. I still don't believe in myself on when, how, and what content to post. For other people, it can be a great way to communicate, but I think it's difficult for me.

Q. One of the videos that created a topic on the Internet is Mijoo doing speed quiz with the horse sound on "The Sixth Sense". I don't think such a scene would've been easy to come out even if you had prepared for it in advance.
A. That was really fun to film too! Actually, I've never made plans or study before doing a show.  I had a particularly good chemistry with the unnies and oppas on "The Sixth Sense" that I think it came out even more fun on the broadcast. We go back and forth really well.

Q. There's another video that is not a show clip that became a topic. The title is ‘The Moment I Became a Mijoo Fan’. Do you know that video?
A. No. What is it?

Q. It's a video of a fan who was going to see another idol who filmed Mijoo from the back and she mumbled, “I get why people like Mijoo,” and Mijoo turned her head and said, “You just knew now? That's really not right~”.
A. Ah, I know that one. (Laughs). I saw that video too. I even remember the face of the person who said that.

Q. Seems like you were born with that fast wit and sense?
A. Rather than born with it, I just have fun in every moment. I like people, and I like talking too. I tend to be honest.

Q. When I see you filming variety shows, there are a lot of shows that put the caption ‘She has given up her idol image’ for you because of your blunt image.
A. Personally, I think idols can be included in variety shows too. I'm working hard to show that idols are variety show stars too. I don't hide the side of me who has fun on variety shows and I want to show all I got, so I love captions like that. I work very hard and I think they know that I enjoy it. But I shouldn't overdo my easy-going personality. (Laughs)

Q. But because of that easy-going side, there are a lot of responses saying that they want to be friends with Mijoo. When you were in school, it seems like you were somewhat of an insider.
A. No? I was a very quiet kid.

Q. Really?
A. My dream since elementary school was to be an idol, so I really went to school quietly and didn't get into trouble. (Laughs) I went with the same friends from elementary school to high school, so I had a lot of friends. But I've never caused any problem noisily.

Q. You had the mind to plan in advance for your dream to be an idol since elementary school. What made you dream of becoming an idol?
A. When I went on retreats and stuff, there were talent shows, right? I worked hard in anything. At that time, I danced to TVXQ-sunbaenim's ‘Hug’ and Bada-sunbaenim's ‘V.I.P’ and I thought, ‘Whoa, this is me. This is me here (on stage).’ (Laughs) From then on, I thought that this is where I was supposed to be. Since then, I quietly practiced without my parents knowing and I went to audition when I was in high school.

Q. It's a dream that you had at the age where it's easy to change your mind, but you were certain about it.
A. My passion was big. I'm a person who starts small and I go up the steps of dream one at a time. I think it's right for me to not dream big and walk slowly and calmly. I auditioned when I was 17 and I just thought, ‘I definitely have to get into a company.’ After I got into the company, I was determined, ‘I definitely have to debut.’ If I had dreamed ‘I have to become an idol’ from the start, I think I wouldn't have found a way to go up the steps one by one and I think I would've gotten tired.

Q. Shall we talk about Lovelyz? Like Mijoo's dreams that come true slowly, it seems like Lovelyz are also slowly widening their fanbase.
A. Right. While promoting ‘Obliviate’, shall I say that it was girl crush? We showed a cooler and more charismatic side of us. I think fangirls in particular like that kind of side of us.

Q. Compared to your debut days, do you realize that the number of fangirls have increased?
A. If Covid-19 didn't happen, I would've felt it directly, but I feel it too now. We did a video call fansign a few days ago. When we did fansigns, usually there would be a lot of fanboys, but on video call fansigns, there were so many fangirls. I think there are more people who know about our hard work now and for that, I was very happy.

Q. I heard that the members are very slow when it comes to variety activities.
A. That's right. When I go on variety shows with the members, they're like, “Unnie, you do this,” and they tend to push me. We each have our own domain that we're good at. When you mention about that area on shows, you help push that member. Just like when we send the person who's good at singing when there's a singing segment, I go out when they need something funny. (Laughs) But actually, all of our members are funny. They're calm when they're on shows, but we shouldn't be called Lovelyz. We're supposed to be called ‘Crazyvelyz’. (Laughs)

Q. Haha. Isn't the nickname too much of a contrast from your group name?
A. Our fans know this so we're fine with it. (Laughs) Each of us are funny in different ways. They're not hyper like me, it's unfit for broadcast so it's difficult to explain. Leader Babysoul-unnie is balanced, but, um... Now that I think about it, leader-unnie is the only balanced person in Lovelyz. (Laughs) I hope we'll be able to show how many our members are one by one in various places in the future.

Q. Your company told you to maintain a ‘chic image’ at first, but at one point you said you let yourself go.
A. Right. I think I did that at one point. I thought, "Can I keep being on shows where I don't show the real me, the real Lee Mijoo? I want to say things like this, I want to take the lead, I want to go out and dance..." So I did take the lead. At first, my agency was like, ‘Why are you like this?’ (Laughs). The fans like it, so please support me now. ‘Mijoo-ya, do more. Reveal more of your talents!’ Like this. (Laughs)

Q. Did you ever think about becoming a Variety-dol’ like this when you were preparing to debut or when you debuted?
A. I didn't expect it and I never imagined it. When I was dreaming of becoming an idol, I didn't even know about a ‘variety-dol’ personality. I'm just really happy that I'm now acknowledged as a ‘variety-dol’ now.

Q. Is there any variety show that you want to go on?
A. When I was little, I watched "Family Outing" a lot. I want to go on a show like that where I go on a 2 days and 1 night trip somewhere, do morning mission and cook my own meal. Or a running show like "Running Man"? I actually have a lot of shows I want to be on.

Q. You have to be in sync with a lot of seniors on shows, right? You're the youngest in "The Sixth Sense" so did you have any pressure?
A. It'd be a lie if I said that there was no pressure at first. But the more I did it, the more fun it got. All the unnies seem like they're all ‘Strong Unnies’, but they're really warm and fun people, so I think I was able to show what I got comfortably. I was naturally in harmony with the unnies and I learned a lot too. I even looked forward to the filming days. That's the kind of show it was.

Q. Your ‘Variety-dol’ image is really big, but you're actually Lovelyz's main dancer, right? Don't you have any worry that ‘Would I look funny on stage too?’?
A. I've never thought of that at all. I may have no self-control on variety shows, but I'm going to show a dance that matches the concept and image seriously. There are sometimes comments that say ‘Right, Mijoo's an idol’, and I think they see me that way because I put a difference between my stage-self and my variety-self. I still have so many things I have yet to show, so I wonder if I can show my serious side on stage slowly to more people.

Q. Like your new side that you'll show at today's photoshoot?
A. With that kind of vibe. (Laughs)

Q. Variety is variety, but as the main dancer and an idol member, I'm sure there were a lot of your efforts that were hidden.
A. I said this before, but I think I'm walking passionately step by step. When I went to the academy before I debuted, my friends there said something like that. “She'll definitely debut.” It was obvious that I was eager to debut. Of course, that passion has continued until now! (Laughs)

Q. I actually first came to know about an idol named Mijoo because of the video of you finishing your ‘Destiny’ stage even with a ruptured ligament 4 years ago. When I watched that, I thought, ‘She's really incredible.’ Do you remember how you felt at that time?
A. I don't actually remember. I don't know what I thought while dancing. I didn't know that my ligament ruptured. But my right ankle kept twisting, so I just put strength on my left leg and danced. I think I only thought that I should finish the stage. As soon as I did, I was immediately taken to the hospital.

Q. You were only thinking of the stage at that moment too. It's like you also have a workaholic side.
A. I think I did have something like that before, but now I receive every day thankfully and happily, so I think I ended up working harder. I'm doing an interview and a photoshoot like this, I'm happy about all of that. Being busy is good, and the fact that a lot of people are looking for me and thinking of me is something to be thankful for. If I can go home on time after the photoshoot today, that's another trivial happiness. (Laughs)

Q. As expected, everybody is happy about leaving work on time. What made you feel that way?
A. While expanding my dream bit by bit, I comforted myself by saying, ‘It's not too late to go for bigger goals’. If you try to hurry and achieve many things, you'll become more unhappy. You get shaken up even by small things that other people say. I've caved in because of that experience. After that, I ended up thinking that I should be someone who appreciates and has fun in this moment. When this moment passes, it all becomes the past, so rather than insecure and unhappy memories, it's nice to have many happy memories, right? With that thought, I think I grow, my mentality gets stronger, and I become mature. It's me, but I'm so proud of myself~ (Laughs)

Q. If you could pick only one way to do that, what would it be?
A. I decided not to read comments. The people around me tell me about the comments that they see, but the moment I looked them up myself and I paid attention to them, I ended up not being able to say anything on broadcasts. I could see my own way without reading the comments. I feel like I'm losing my own thoughts the moment I lean toward what anybody says. Thanks to that, my mentality has gotten much stronger now and I think my confidence has grown.

Q. You've found a way to be happy by yourself without being swayed by what others say.
A. That's right. I've realized that I have to listen to what other people say, but that I shouldn't be swayed by it. I could then love myself more and respect the sound of my own heart more.

Q. This is the year-end, right? What's something that you definitely want to do next year that you couldn't do this year?
A. Solo! It's my wish to release a solo song and solo album, so every year I just say that it's my next year goal. I can't help it if I can't do it. (Laughs) If not that, then, like I said earlier, I want to do a variety show where I go for 2 days and 1 night, and I want to shoot a lot of pictorials where I can show a reverse charm, like today's.

Q. You're showing a different hidden charm that fits the photoshoot.
A. Yes. There are still so many things I have yet to show. Today's photoshoot will be the start of the different charms that I will show from now on. (Laughs)

[INTERVIEW] Marie Claire - October 2020

Unforgettable
Lovelyz's time flows again. They're walking the same path, but in a better way.

▲ Your new album <Unforgettable> is out. This is a comeback after a long time, right?
Sujeong: A year and 4 months.

▲ That's a very long time compared to the fast comeback pattern of idol groups lately.
Sujeong: This is the first time since debut that we were on hiatus for this long. So the preparation process was more exciting and fun.

▲ The response to the title track ‘Obliviate’ is good, with the MV hitting more than 6 million views in less than a week. What image did you want to show through this song?
Jiae: There were people who misunderstood that the concept would be strong when they saw the teaser, but I think they can see it as Lovelyz's existing delicateness, but in a stronger form.
Sujeong: ‘Obliviate’ is a title song where I participated in the lyrics making. It was intense when I first listened to the guide version, but I got the subtle vibe inside. So when I wrote the lyrics, I tried my best to emphasize that vibe. ‘Obliviate’ is some sort of a spell, and it's a spell to overcome a painful love.
Kei: Everyone's style changed a lot through this album, and our choreography became very powerful.

▲ This choreography is certainly strong compared to your past stages.
Jiae: Everyone got bruises at the same spot during practice.
Sujeong: We wore high-heeled boots during the music video filming and all the heels broke so we also changed them.

▲ Maknae Yein transformed in an eye catching way. This is your first time promoting with short hair, right?
Yein: First in my life. (Laughs) I've never had short hair before in my 23 years of life. I didn't regret cutting it. I got tired of my long hair. I feel happy now that I've cut it.

▲ In what situation is it good to listen to the songs in this album?
Jiae: Everybody will experience bad things while living, right? I hope you can listen to this song at that time and forget about [the bad thing]. So I hope everyone will listen to ‘Obliviate’ on the last day of this year.
Sujeong: Oh! With the meaning of forgetting bad memories and departing on a new start?
Jiae: Let's go!

▲ Is this album a transition? Or an extension?
Sujeong: We did do a new attempt, but I don't think it's a transition. I think it's more of an extension of what Lovelyz have done.
Jisoo: That's right. I think it's a bit more mature but it still has Lovelyz's unique vibe.

▲ You grew individually too and not just musically?
JIN: Yes.
Jiae: We say a lot among ourselves that we've become stronger than before.
Sujeong: All of us feel like we've become much stronger and mature than when we debuted, and it looks like that transition also melted into the song a lot, so it's good.
Yein: Also, isn't it great when we're noisy these days? We've been talking a lot more recently, and I think we cheer each other up like that.

▲ Who ups the energy the most?
Sujeong: Everybody. (Laughs)
Kei: People don't know this, but all of us are funnier than you think.

▲ Compared to other groups, Lovelyz didn't do a lot of individual activities. You've started doing activities where you can show each member's charms on TV shows and radio recently.
Yein: It's now, so it's better, I think. It was a pressure when we did individual activities before. I think opportunities to show our charms come to us when we're more relaxed and capable.
Babysoul: That's right. It's fun because the members are showing their hidden charms one by one in a lot of places these days.

▲ Is there any member who's able to show the side that they hadn't been able to show before?
Babysoul: Jiae is doing a radio show recently and she's showing the public a lot of her sides that she'd never shown before, but we know about those.
JIN: Her very playful and honest side.
Jiae: It's a bit of a problem because I speak too freely. (Laughs)
Mijoo: It's JIN for me. JIN's voice is really nice. I thought that it'd be nice if she could have a song showcasing that, and then she participated in an OST for the drama <Lonely Enought To Love> recently. With this opportunity, it would be nice if the members who sing well can do activities with various music.

▲ Is there any individual activity you want to try in the future?
Jisoo: I want to try being a <TV Animal Farm> MC. I really love animals.
Mijoo: I think you'll talk with animals later. Woof woof! Woof woof woof!
Sujeong: JIN-unnie is usually very talented and funny, but when MCs ask her to show her personal talents, what comes out is a bit different. So I wonder what will it be if she tries a content where she can film it comfortably.
Jisoo: An observatory variety is nice, and I think a daily vlog content would be good as well.

▲ You started your personal SNS accounts not long ago.
Sujeong: That's right. It's been 3 months.
Jisoo: We got the company's permission now.
Yein: Please follow us.

▲ I'm sure you had the desire to show yourselves quicker.
Babysoul: We thought that we had to speak and act according to the image that Lovelyz held, so we didn't think that we could show our individual characteristics comfortably.
Sujeong: Furthermore, we're all shy. When it's just us, we're very funny and loud, but we get nervous and shy on variety shows so our real selves don't come out well.
Jisoo: We're getting a bit better now.
Babysoul: After 6 years. (Laughs)

▲ That took a very long time.
Jisoo: Haha. We're a bit slow.

▲ What do you feel when you hear the word ‘6 years old’?
Babysoul: I thought, ‘When did 6 years pass? It's already 6 years? What to do?’ It feels like that.

▲ What's the moment you remember the most in that time?
Sujeong: Concert.
Babysoul: I feel very rewarded when I see the fans who have been supporting us since debut days watching our stage from the same spot. It feels like it's a bond that is past the fans-singer relationship now.

▲ What do you think is Lovelyz's unique strength that you've been building up so far?
Sujeong: The voices of 8 of us is very nice. Our strength is amplifying our music with those voices. I think people like the emotion that's created by mixing our 8 voices together better.
Babysoul: Lovelyz's music itself. We have no song that we made just to fill the album. We're confident in each of our song. I think our strength is our good music.

▲ What do you think Lovelyz need now? Will we be able to see another hit song like 'Ah-Choo'?
Babysoul: Of course it'd be nice to see that right away, but growing step by step is more important than that. That's why, we'll build ourselves on the inside in the process of going up.

▲ What do you wish people will think of when they hear ‘Lovelyz’?
Babysoul: Lovelyz will go for a long time.
Kei: A wall.
JIN: As expected, Lovelyz is 8 people.
Sujeong: Crazy/explosive.
Mijoo: As expected, Lovelyz whose music I trust to listen to. MidDeudLo.
Kei: Unrivaled.
Mijoo: Okay, that's enough.

▲ Shall we wrap this up by talking about what you want to say to your members?
JIN:
I want to say something to Babysoul-unnie. You have a lot of high notes in this song. I understand the pressure because I also had a lot of high notes in the early days of our promotion. I just want to say that you did a good job.
Babysoul: That's so random? Should I cry?
Mijoo: Give us a bottle of soju here! (Laughs)
Yein: Anyway, it's not an easy thing to do to promote like this as 8 together for 6 years. I'm thankful for that alone. And I'm the maknae but the unnies sincerely take care of me. I'm thankful for that as well.
Kei: You've also been good to us as much as we have been to you.
Jiae: Oh my, you grew up well.
Yein: It suddenly becomes sad (after she finished talking, she couldn't stop crying for some time).
Mijoo: She's crying for real.
Kei: I guess she got emotional all of a sudden. Can we end this with her crying like this? (Laughs)
