Mijoo, Jisoo, Yein's dream season
"What would it be like if Lovelyz went hip?" Mijoo, Jisoo, and Yein of the group Lovelyz are back to answer questions like this as well as about their recent interests. Lovelyz, who are in their 7th year this year, talked about the concept of their new album with twinkling eyes every time they meet with their members even now. Not only transforming on stage, these 3 Lovelyz's 'visual members' said they also wanted to MC, act, etc. and unfold their talents in many domains. The summer of 2020 is the season that Mijoo, Jisoo, and Yein dream of.
▲ Yein celebrated her 23rd birthday the day before the photoshoot. How did you spend your birthday?
Yein: Until now, I've always spent my birthday at a TV station. This birthday is where I had no schedule after a very long time, so I turned on V Live at the company and spent it while being with fans. Mijoo-unnie also gave me the 'Mijoo-unnie Special' seaweed soup. (Laughs) It was a seaweed soup that Mijoo put minced garlic and her sincerity in, so I remember it even after my birthday has passed.
▲ We heard that the Lovelyz's members are not dorming anymore starting from early this year. How do you feel about living alone after living together in a dorm for 6 years?
Mijoo: It's nice to live alone, but I miss my members, so I often say and express that I miss them in the Lovelyz group chat. Even in real life, we meet up a lot. I didn't really like cooking, but I've started cooking for myself, and I discovered the fun in matching tastes. (Laughs)
▲ Did the members do a housewarming party?
Mijoo: I only invited a few people, so there was one member who showed up and one member who didn't. I made it simple. (Laughs) I invited Sujeong and Yein to my housewarming party and we ate until there was no leftover.
▲ What's the secret to Lovelyz's teamwork? Even at the photoshoot site today, you 3 looked like you were comfortable, so it was nice to see.
Mijoo: We really don't fight and when we have a schedule together, we play a lot of games together. We enjoy playing the mafia game or the Liar game that we downloaded on our phones. We tend to be rational in that everyone can give their opinion and reflect on it.
▲ What's the hottest interest among the members these days?
Mijoo: A Lovelyz comeback. Even when we meet, we talk about comeback. (Laughs) 'When will we make a comeback?' 'I hope the song will be good' 'What will be the concept this time?', etc. I met some members last night and even then we talked about it, and I think we'll talk about it today as well. Haha.
▲ Even if it's not your comeback this time, what concept do you want to do?
Mijoo: Lovelyz has never tried a 'hip' concept until now, so I want to try a hip concept that also has that Lovelyz's prettiness. I think it'll be good if we can go on stage wearing a bandana like Yein's outfit for the photoshoot today.
▲ Do you want to try coming out with a Lovelyz unit instead of a group comeback? If you do, which members do you want to do it with?
Jisoo: I want to do a ballad unit with Jiae-unnie and sing an exciting song in a rock band-style unit with Mijoo or Babysoul-unnie. Like the song sang in the concert scene in the movie 'School of Rock'.
Mijoo: If asked by the company, I'll work hard in doing a unit or a solo. (Laughs)
▲ We heard there are members who are interested in acting.
Jisoo: I filmed a web drama 'One Fine Week' last year and it was very fun. So I want to try more acting.
Yein: I also have an interest in acting. I keep auditioning.
Mijoo: Rather than acting, I feel that I still want to stand on stage. Filming variety shows is fun too, so I want to grow through being an MC as well.
▲ What character or genre do you want to try if you have the opportunity?
Jisoo: I want to try a role like Jennifer Lawrence's Dominika in the movie 'Red Sparrow'. Dominika is a seductive spy who can do anything and she's very charming. I like acting, so I want to practice more and receive more lessons.
▲ If not acting, this hiatus is a good time to grow your skills, right?
Yein: I co-wrote 'Flying' for tvN's 'Miss Lee' OST Part 3 last year. The memory from that time is fun, so I wrote 2 songs for the company this time too. My name Jeong Yein is in 'Flying' that is sung by singer Jeon Sang Keun, so this time, I submitted the songs blindly (without her name). One is a ballad and one is a song that has a refreshing feel to it. I'm sure it will be revealed to the world someday, right? (Laughs)
Jisoo: I've been designing and drawing Lovelyz goods in my spare time. I was going to do that for our concert last year but the timing didn't line up. It was canceled design and has never once been revealed. When the pandemic blows over a bit and we can do a concert again, I wonder if I can reveal the design. They'll give me my share, right? (Laughs) I studied art for 7 years before debuting as an idol, so even now, I have an interest towards designing. My dream is to open a shopping mall too later.
▲ Do you keep in contact with the 'Queendom' members that you got close with?
Yein: The 'Six Puzzle' group chat on KakaoTalk still exists. We keep in contact and we have met up to eat together as well. We can't see each other a lot recently due to the pandemic. On my birthday, (G)I-DLE's Soojin-unnie, AOA's Chanmi-unnie, and Mamamoo's Moonbyul-unnie wished me a happy birthday, so I was really thankful.
▲ Who is a musician you want to collaborate with?
Jisoo: Rapper Lee Youngji-ssi. She's good at rapping and seems humorous and cheerful. I personally like her, so I watched her on 'GOOD GIRL' too.
Yein: I really like the band Hyukoh's songs, so I want to collaborate with them someday.
Mijoo: For me, Jessi-sunbaenim. I think she's really cool, so not only for music, but I also hope that I can do a variety show with her.
▲ Woollim Entertainment released a group song 'Relay' last May 31st. How was it recording and filming with Lovelyz, Infinite's Kim Sunggyu, Golden Child, Rocket Punch, and Woollim Rookies?
Yein: Before, there was only Infinite-sunbaenim and Lovelyz, but now we already have juniors and even Woollim Rookies. I thought, "So the company is developing and growing. We have a lot of juniors now." I felt pride but I also had mixed feelings. There were 31 of us so we could become one class.
▲ Except for Mijoo, Jisoo and Yein have their own personal Instagrams and are communicating with fans. What are the most memorable words said by fans so far?
Yein: How they overcome their hard times thanks to me or by listening to Lovelyz's music. Fans could be having a hard time, and when I read the letters written by them, I relate to how hard it would be for them, so I'm thankful when they say that they overcome it thanks to my or our music and I feel greatly moved. It made me feel 'So I'm doing a precious work' 'So I'm a person that's receiving love'.
Mijoo: I'm like Yein. When I'm doing a V Live or other live broadcasts, I screenshot fan comments that are memorable to me and saved them on my phone to read in my spare time. When I read them, I feel that 'So I'm a person that's receiving love' 'I shouldn't have a hard time'.
Jisoo: I agree. I think that I'm nothing by myself, but when I read the words left by fans, I don't feel like I'm nothing. So I promised again that I need to give our fans more happiness and I'll have to work harder [for them].
▲ In contrast, do you have anything you're curious about your fans?
Yein: Our country has a lot of girl groups, but why do you like us? What do you like about us? How did you come to know about us? I'm always curious about those things.
▲ Did the members find that answer?
Jisoo: I think many people are drawn to the delicate vibe that Lovelyz's music has. I think it was the delicate vibe at first, then they fell for our friendly charms, and I feel like there are many people who like our teamwork.
▲ What do you want to do before this year ends?
Mijoo: I want to get a certificate for anything. I'm interested in getting a cooking certificate or a driver's license.
Yein: Before the time passes, I want to act in a school drama wearing a school uniform. (Laughs) It'd be really great if I could play a student character, but I want to try acting even if it's a small role.
Jisoo: Even if it's small, I want to release something that is 'Daebak'. I will try anything that I can feel a sense of accomplishment in.
